Water firm to replace 11 miles of pipes

Anglian Water is replacing 11 miles (18km) of pipes in a Lincolnshire village as part of a £4.2m upgrade.

Road closures will be in place during the project in Gedney Hill, starting from 27 April. The water firm said it hoped it would be completed by spring 2027.

Ashton Carradine, customer experience specialist, said: "This project will help make sure we can keep taps running and toilets flushing for residents in and around Gedney Hill for years to come."

The company said the East of England was the driest part of the country, along with one of the fastest growing with more than 700,000 new residents anticipated in the next 20 years.

The company also said the work should not impact customers' water and sewerage services and advance warning would be given if any water supply needed to be switched off.

• Langary Gate Road - Phase One - 27 April to 5 June
• Langary Gate Road - Phase Two - 8 June to 7 September
• North Road - 3 August to 1 September
• West Drove South - 14 September to 9 October

Mill Lane will also have traffic lights in place from 3 August to 11 September.

Anglian Water said its Water Resources Management Plan, published every five years, outlines water needs across the region.

"Without such proactive planning and investment, there will simply not be enough water to supply customers in the East of England," the company stated.

Ahead of the warmer months, the company said steps such as taking shorter showers to putting full loads in washings machine can "really make a difference" to water supply.
