A community centre is to close later this month for refurbishment before new operators take over the site.

Elmbridge Borough Council said the Molesey Centre will close from 17 April until the end of May, when the site will be taken over by the St Peter's West Molesey church.

A spokesperson for the council added it was in touch with the groups which use the centre about alternative spaces during the closure.

The temporary closure comes after the council said it would work with community groups to run the centre and other hubs in the region.

The council spokesperson added: "St Peter's West Molesey has strong local roots and a longstanding commitment to community support.

"They have a vision for a hub offering an affordable cafe for all ages, with activities and support services including space for children's play, and will work with the Friends of the Molesey Centre to provide a vibrant programme of activities for the elderly."

In July 2025, Elmbridge Borough Council approved plans to lease or sell off community centres. In December, it announced the Molesey Centre and Weybridge Hub would be run by St Peter's and Elevate Elmbridge respectively.
