Pool revamp delayed a second time in £1.3m scheme
Getty ImagesA £1.3m refurbishment of a swimming pool in Surrey has been delayed for a second time due to "contractor issues", a council has said.
The revamp of Hurst Pool in Molesey had originally been due to begin at the end of March, with completion scheduled for late summer.
A delay in the procurement process led to works being pushed back to late April, but Elmbridge Borough Council has now said the refurbishment "will no longer go ahead as planned".
In a statement on its website, the council said: "A revised start date is currently being finalised. We will provide a further update once this has been confirmed."
The pool is operated and managed by Places Leisure on behalf of the council.
When the refurbishment was planned, the council said that the pool had been a "well-loved" facility since it opened in 1996. It currently welcomes about 157,000 visitors each year.
The council said that the swimming pool had been well-cared for over the years, but needed significant upgrades to remain a modern, functional and sustainable space.
Planned works include modernised changing rooms, upgraded interiors, improved energy efficiency and better vending provision for refreshments.
