Several horses are loose on the carriageway of a major road in Dorset.

Dorset Police said it received a report at 11:50 BST that a small herd was spotted on the southbound carriageway of the A338 Spur Road near Christchurch.

"Officers are in attendance and traffic is being managed while the incident is dealt with," it said in a statement.

The incident is causing delays in the area with the road blocked from Ringwood to Bournemouth.

There is congestion at the Cooper Dean Roundabout and the B3073 at Christchurch is also congested as drivers seek an alternative route.
