Trump says US 'on the cusp' of ending Iran war in televised address

US President Donald Trump says his core "objectives are nearing completion" in Iran, during a primetime televised speech from the White House.

The roughly 20-minute speech also called on countries reliant on the Strait of Hormuz to 'build up the courage' to secure it, arguing that the US doesn't "need it".

Following the speech, global oil prices rose to $105 a barrel.
