Acid attack case jury retires to consider verdicts

The jury in the trial of a fatal acid attack on a drug dealer at his home has retired to consider its verdict.

Danny Cahalane, 38, was attacked with sulphuric acid in Lipson Road, Plymouth, on 21 February 2025 and died in hospital on 3 May.

Seven men and two women have been on trial since 22 January at Winchester Crown Court facing a range of charges including murder, an alternative charge of manslaughter, being part of an organised crime gang and attempted kidnapping.

Judge Ms Justice Norton told the jury not to rush its deliberations and unanimous verdicts were not expected this week.

The two women, both from Plymouth, Cahalane's ex-wife Paris Wilson, 35, and his former partner's sister Jude Hill, 43, along with Israel Augustus, 26, Isanah Sungum, 22, Abdulrasheed Adedoja, 23, Ramarnee Bakas, 23 all from London, are charged with murder and an alternative charge of manslaughter.

Wilson, Adedoja, Bakas, Augustus, Sungum and Brian Kalemba, 23, from London have also been charged with being part of an organised crime gang, along with Arrone Mukuna, 25, and Jean Mukuna, 23 from London.

Adedoja, Bakas, Wilson, Jean Mukuna and Arrone Mukuna are also charged with attempted kidnapping.
