Four arrested as hundreds ride through city centre
Northumbria Police"Ride out" events advertised on social media attracted about 300 young people to gather in a city centre on three occasions causing disruption, a police force said.
The meet-ups took place on 14, 21, 28 March in Newcastle when large groups rode bikes on the wrong side of the road and ignored traffic measures.
Northumbria Police said a handful also crowded around parked vehicles and caused damage to them, while others set fire to clothing and threw missiles.
The force said it had identified 47 young people through CCTV footage and had arrested four, aged between 11 and 15, on suspicion of conspiring to intentionally or recklessly cause a public nuisance.
They have since been released on police bail.
The force has also seized six bicycles and issued 20 dispersal notices.
The Northumbria force has urged parents and carers to ask their children not to attend future events.
Ch insp Rob Bosson said the force's approach "very much focuses on preventing anti-social behaviour and minimising any safety concerns".
"We appreciate that most young people are just out to have fun with their friends, but this could easily result in someone getting seriously hurt," he said.
"Please know that we will take robust action when it's needed and appropriate, which could leave your child facing criminal consequences for their action."
