Drivers urged not to flout roadwork restrictions
Middlesbrough CouncilDrivers have been urged not to ignore restrictions while major roadworks are carried out on a bridge.
Middlesbrough Council said it was forced to shut slip roads on to the A174 from the A172 Stokesley Road at Marton, after people were spotted carrying out illegal manoeuvres.
While traffic leaving the A174 can still use exit slip-roads on to Stokesley Road, it is strictly for left-hand turns only. The authority warned drivers could face prosecution, while exit slip roads from the A174 could also be closed if necessary.
"We urge motorists to follow the measures in place to ensure the safety of everybody using the road," a spokesman said.
The work to repair concrete beneath the bridge and create new kerbs and footways has been ongoing since the start of March and is expected to end in autumn.
The council said traffic management measures would remain under review.
A spokesman said: "Public safety remains the council's first priority and we thank residents and motorists for their understanding."
