Boy, 14, died after choking on sandwich - inquest
OtherA teenager died after choking on a sandwich at a North Yorkshire pub, an inquest has heard.
Emmerson Kelsey, 14, had been working at The Friars Head, in Bedale, on 12 November, when the food became lodged in his throat.
Northallerton Coroners Court heard how despite efforts from staff to help him, Kelsey, from Thornborough, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital where he died that evening.
The hearing was told Kelsey's cause of death had been an upper airway obstruction, with the full inquest due to take place at a later date.
In a tribute posted online in November, The Friars Head said Kelsey had been part of the team for eight months and worked as a kitchen porter.
"Emmerson was one day hoping to become a chef. As well as his work ethic, Emmerson was a real character, good fun and loved by all his colleagues," a spokesperson said.
"The over-riding tragedy is that Emmerson was only 14 years old and had his whole life ahead of him."
