Stolen car driver jailed for hitting police officer
Scot CourtsA man has been jailed for three years and four months after hitting a police officer while driving a stolen car in Edinburgh.
Lewis Mackie, 23, struck the officer on 6 December 2024, on Dumbryden Gardens after police tried to stop the vehicle.
The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment but was released before the car was found abandoned.
Mackie was also disqualified for driving for 52 months when he was sentenced at the High Court in Inverness on Wednesday.
During sentencing, he was also issued with a non-harassment order and told not to contact the police officer indefinitely.
His sentence will be backdated to 21 September 2025, with a 12 month supervised release order also imposed.
Det Insp Alan Sharp said: "Such attacks on officers who are carrying out their duties are wholly unacceptable.
"Officers work to keep the public safe and any violence towards them will not be tolerated.
"We will continue to take action against anyone who harms officers while carrying out their duties."
