Extra patrols will take place in Staines town centre over the weekend

A dispersal order has been put in place in a town for 48 hours in an attempt to deter criminal or anti-social behaviour.

Surrey Police said the dispersal order in Staines, in force until 10:00 BST on Sunday, covers Lammas Park, High Street, Two Rivers, Elmsleigh Centre, plus up to and including the train station.

There will be extra patrols in the area where the dispersal order is in place.

Inspector Matt Walton said it was "intended to ensure the safety of residents and visitors to Staines over the Easter weekend".

The order gives police officers, or community support officers, the power to order a group of two or more people away from an area if they are committing, of if police believe they will commit, an offence.

The force also asked the public for help by reporting any anti-social behaviour or criminal activity they see in the area.
