Man appears in court charged with mother's murder

A man accused of killing his mother will stand trial over her alleged murder later this year.

Joshua Izu, 32, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court charged with the murder of Oji Izu, 64, in Whitfield, near Dover, on 29 March.

He is due to stand trial over the alleged killing at a property in Khartoum Square on 2 November, 2026, with the case to be heard at Canterbury Crown Court.

A Kent Police spokesperson said there would be an increased police presence in Whitfield while officers investigate, but a cordon at the property has been stood down. The force is also appealing for witnesses.
