A Telford branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) is to organise an event to mark the anniversary of a World War One battle.

The Madeley group will hold a service at the town's war memorial on 1 July at 18:30 BST.

That date will be 110 years since the start of the Battle of the Somme in 1916, which saw more than 19,000 members of the British forces killed by the end of that day.

The branch will work with Madeley Town Council on the event, after a meeting earlier this year heard the authority and the RBL work well together on local events.
