Historical theme park seeks to expand
KynrenA historical theme park is looking to expand ahead of its official opening.
Kynren - The Storied Lands, which is due to open in July, will be a new daytime attraction in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, where visitors can explore different historical and mythical settings.
The team behind the park, The Auckland Project, is seeking planning permission to hold new shows at the site to aid year-round programming and higher visitor numbers.
The Auckland Project head Jane Ruffer said the park would "support jobs, skills and opportunities" for local people and its expansion was "key to unlocking" the town's potential.
Proposed new shows at the site include one about British seafaring and Robin Hood, according to a spokesperson. These shows will require new purpose-built performance spaces.
The team is also seeking permission to hold an outdoor show dramatising Roman Britain.
The spokesperson said the park's expansion would be key to making it a "year-round attraction" and its forecasts suggest the site could attract more than a million visitors a year in the near future.
