Final phase of housing development gets green light
BM3The final phase of a brownfield housing regeneration project in Derby has been approved.
Phase five of the Castleward Urban Village will include 167 properties - 30% of these will be classed as affordable homes.
The wider project, which was first approved in 2012, is part of a £100m scheme with 800 homes, green space and nearly 35,000 square feet of commercial retail space on land between the Derbion shopping centre and the city's railway station.
Derby City Council leader Nadine Peatfield, said: "I'm delighted that we're closing in on this next phase and have got this land acquisition and planning decision over the line."
The required land has also now been transferred to developers Compendium Living. This includes former commercial buildings on Liversage Street, Siddals Road and Canal Street, which will be demolished, to make way for the new properties.
The council said it had worked to relocate affected businesses, where possible, and those that wished to relocate had now found alternative premises.
Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2027.
Peatfield added: "Castleward is one of our city's key regeneration projects, transforming brownfield land into a vibrant new gateway to the city.
"Now, we can focus on delivering more high-quality homes in our city centre."
