Force's oldest police dog ends his paw patrol

Puck has retired after working for Humberside Police for almost 10 years

A force's oldest serving police dog has retired after almost 10 years of patrols and catching criminals.

During his career, PD Puck, a nine-year-old Belgian Malinois, helped Humberside Police to apprehend dangerous offenders, locate vital evidence, find missing people and assist during firearms incidents.

He was first paired with handler PC Mark Ramage in 2017 and passed his training course within eight weeks.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: "It is fair to say Puck will embrace the slower pace of life, snoozing on the sofa, in front of the log burner. His handler says he especially enjoys his Sunday dinner."

Puck has also managed to get his paws on policing awards for his work in the force.

They include a Lifetime Achievement award by the Thin Blue Paw Foundation, a national charity which celebrates police dogs, in 2025.

He also received a Chief Constable's commendation for his assistance during the Hull riots in August 2024, along with the award for standout team of the year in 2025.

Puck will now enjoy his well-earned retirement years at Ramage's home alongside his brother PD Charlie who is also a serving police dog and Niamh, who will be starting training in April to take over from Puck.

"From everyone at Humberside Police, happy retirement Puck and thank you for your outstanding service," a spokesperson for the force said.
