Northern rubbish tip reopens under new operator
BBCA rubbish tip that has been closed for a month while a new operator takes over is set to reopen.
The Department of Infrastructure said the Northern Civic Amenity Site (NCAS), at Balladoole on Bride Road in Ramsey, would once again be operating from 09:00 BST.
Previously run by Ramsey Commissioners on behalf of the department, the site was closed on 23 March to allow Manx Rock, a private road maintenance contractor, to take over its management.
The site, which allows the disposal of garden and household waste, including electrical items and furniture, is open to residents in the seven northern local authority areas.
The government said the site would reopen between 09:00 and 16:00 every day, however the reuse section – which allows people to leave items in reasonable condition for others to pick up – "will not be open initially".
Ramsey Commissioners had operated the site on behalf of its fellow northern authorities Ballaugh, Lezayre, Garff, Andreas, Jurby, and Bride - which made up the NCAS joint committee – since 2017.
The board's contract was handed back to the department in April 2024, following Bride's decision to withdraw its financial contribution, however, Ramsey Commissioners agreed to continue managing the site for a further year.
The department previously confirmed that all seven authorities were once again contributing to the cost of running the site.
