Faye Dawson, 50, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following the incident on 7 March last year

A "reckless" woman who reached speeds of 80mph (129kph) on a 60mph (97kph) road before crashing her car with five teenagers inside has been jailed.

Faye Dawson, 50, from Cheadle, Staffordshire, was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Court on 25 March to one year and two months in prison and given a driving ban of four years and seven months.

She had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following the crash on 7 March last year, when she lost control of the Vauxhall Corsa she was driving on Delphouse Road in Cheadle.

There were five passengers in the car at the time, all aged 15, four of whom were injured.

Dawson had been travelling at 80mph whilst driving on the wrong side of the road in the lead up to the incident, police said.

Officers described her actions as "reckless and selfish" and said the sentence reflected the seriousness of what she had done.
