Police said they received a report of a man "behaving aggressively on a tram" near Theatre Royal on 30 March

A man has been arrested in connection with a string of reported incidents in Nottingham city centre.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers received multiple calls about a "heavily-intoxicated man" on 30 March, including allegations of assaults and "making racial comments".

One report said a man was behaving aggressively on a tram near Theatre Royal at about 17:30 BST, with further reported incidents occurring in Canal Street, Carrington Street and Friar Lane.

A 33-year-old suspect was arrested in Meadows Way at about 17:50 and questioned on suspicion of affray, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, racially aggravated common assault, criminal damage and assault by beating.

The man has been bailed pending further inquiries, and police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Supt Chris Pearson said: "We believe the suspect had travelled into Nottingham from Grimsby and had been drinking excessively."
