Dog bites hero runner on nose during canal rescue
Neil Frisby-MailA brave runner who jumped into a canal to rescue a puppy was bitten on the nose by the dog during the commotion.
Neil Frisby-Mail was out jogging alongside the River Don Navigation in Doncaster when he spotted miniature dachshund Nellie struggling in the water.
Nellie was being walked by owner Evelyn Straw and her two children when the 10-month-old accidentally fell off the path between Kirk Sandall and Barnby Dun.
Frisby-Mail, who owns an aquatics business in Hull, said he saw people "screaming and crying" after Nellie got into difficulties.
After the rescue and despite his wet clothing, he continued with his run.
He said: "I noticed the little dog's head bobbing up and down in the canal and threw my phone and headphones on the ground and jumped in to grab it."
Frisby-Mail was planning to take a different route that morning, and only decided to run along the canal after a friend cancelled their plans.
After being nipped on the nose, he held Nellie's back and threw her forwards out of the water.
"I made sure she was safely on the canal path and then had to run home dripping wet!"
Nellie's owners said she was recovering well after the ordeal.
