Dozens of firefighters are tackling a large blaze at a number of sheds in Newtownards, County Down.

The fire at the Corries Meats premises on the Crossnamuckley Road was reported at about 19:15 BST on Saturday.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said there are currently 54 firefighters on the scene.

In a statement to BBC News NI, the Corrie family thanked emergency services and said "all individuals are safe and accounted for despite the devastation caused", adding that they would be "working with authorities while supporting our people and operations".

DUP councillor Naomi Armstrong-Cotter said she was "devastated" to hear about the fire and said her thoughts are with the Corrie family.

"The Corries are really good people," she said, adding that the business would often host charity events at the site.

"They are employers of so many people in the area, it's just awful," she added. "Hopefully the business will be able to keep going."

People are being asked to avoid the area.
