Thieves broke into Chatteris fire station and took its life-saving cutting equipment

Life-saving cutting equipment used in road traffic collisions and emergency rescues has been stolen during break-ins at two fire stations.

The thieves made off with the equipment from Chatteris fire station in the early hours of Monday, before targeting Gamlingay fire station on Tuesday evening.

Residents living close to fire stations are being asked to be Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service's "eyes and ears" by its chief fire officer.

Matthew Warren said: "Please also save any CCTV or Ring doorbell footage if it has captured any suspicious activity."

Warren said the thieves had forced their way into the stations.

"Break-ins to fire stations are happening across the country and this week we have been victims twice," he said.

"If you hear a noise coming from one of our stations, please do just look and check to see if it is our firefighters - don't assume it is.

"We are asking for local residents to please help be our eyes and ears, to report any suspicious activity."

Warren urged people to note down any vehicle details, including registration numbers, and descriptions of any suspects.
