Plans submitted for padel courts in tennis centre
Telford and Wrekin CouncilPlans have been submitted to create covered outdoor padel courts in Telford.
We Do Tennis, which partners with Telford and Wrekin Council's leisure service, is behind the application, which would see the courts built at Telford Tennis Centre.
If approved, there would be two new covered doubles courts, one uncovered singles court, facilities including retail space, a viewing area, changing rooms, a cafe and improvements to outdoor areas.
The authority said this was a "key milestone" in bringing the sport to the borough, and is part of a wider programme of facility improvements and efforts to grow participation in sport.
"This represents real momentum in expanding the offer at Telford Tennis Centre and giving our residents even more ways to get active," said councillor Angela McClements, cabinet member for leisure, tourism, culture and the arts.
"Subject to planning approval, these new facilities will deliver an exciting sporting experience and further strengthen the already successful partnership between the Council and We Do Tennis."
Nigel Hunter, Co Director of We Do Tennis, added: "Padel is growing at an incredible pace and we're passionate about bringing this vibrant, sociable sport to Telford."
"These new courts will allow people of all ages and abilities to try something fresh, stay active and enjoy a brilliant atmosphere."
