Teenage girl shot in legs in 'targeted shooting'

A 17-year-old girl has been shot in the legs in what police called a "targeted" attack.

Merseyside Police said the woman was shot at about 00:55 GMT at an address in Lime Grove, Toxteth, Liverpool.

Armed officers attended the scene and the girl was in a "serious but stable condition" after being taken to hospital, a force spokesman said.

Det Insp Ainsley McAlice said: "We understand the concern that any such incident will have in our communities, and initially believe that this was a targeted attack by someone known to the victim."

Officers will be undertaking house-to-house inquiries and have appealed for information.
