A man who raped a sleeping woman has been jailed for 10 years.

Reuben Wilson, 54, from Beverley, was charged with rape in November 2023 and found guilty after a six-day trial at Grimsby Crown Court in December 2025.

Wilson was handed a custodial sentence on Monday, given an indefinite restraining order and was placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Det Sgt Stacey Suffield from Humberside Police's Protecting Vulnerable People Unit said: "Wilson preyed on the woman, raping her as she slept. The trauma and emotional damage he caused will undoubtedly stay with her for the rest of her life."

Suffield added: "The impact of this ordeal was only magnified by Wilson's refusal to admit his guilt, alongside delaying court proceedings through his absence from several court appearances, both of which, extended her trauma unnecessarily.

"Our advice to any victim of sexual offences is to speak to us when you are ready, whether you tell a trusted adult or a friend, it is important that you tell someone."
