Boy, 15, dies in Borders crash involving two cars
BBCA 15-year-old boy has died in a two-car crash in the Scottish Borders.
The collision, involving a black BMW 530e and a yellow Fiat 500 Abarth, happened on the A701 at Hearthstane at about 14:40 on Friday.
An air ambulance attended but the teenager, who was a passenger in the Fiat, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 54-year-old male driver and 21-year-old male passenger were taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
The 27-year-old driver of the BMW and his 26-year-old female passenger went to hospital as a precaution.
The driver was later arrested but released pending further inquiries.
The road was closed for crash investigation work and reopened at about 23:00.
Separate crash
Sgt Jamie Humpage said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the boy who died, and they have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them.
"Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone in the area at the time who saw what happened to get in touch.
"Please also check any dashcam footage you have to see if it has captured something that could assist with our investigation."
In a separate incident, a nine-year-old boy is in a serious condition after a one-vehicle crash on the A697 near Lauder.
Officers said the boy was travelling in a white Toyota Alphard, when it appeared to lose control and left the road at about 20:40 on Friday.
A 40-year-old woman and a seven-year-old boy were also taken to hospital.
Sgt Chris Bright urged anyone with information about the incident to contact officers.
