'Inadequate' care home put into special measures

A Lincoln care home has been placed in special measures after it was rated "inadequate" by the Care Quality Commission.

Redcote House Care Home was found to be below par in terms of safety and leadership.

Inspectors reported that there were safety issues with risk management, care plans, medicines and infection prevention.

However, residents and their families said the home felt safe and it was rated "good" for being caring and responsive.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the home on Redcote Drive was inspected in January.

The report said: "The provider did not detect and control potential risks in the care environment, and infection prevention and control was not always effective. Medicines were not safely managed."

It added that at times staff were rushed and were not always able to spend quality time with the residents.

The commission's report said that during its previous inspection, "we identified two breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and good governance".

It added: "At this assessment, the provider had failed to make necessary improvements and remained in breach of these legal regulations."

Bhandal Care Group, which owns the home, has been contacted for a response.
