Animal charity donates pet equipment to Sark
BBCA charity is hoping to help save the lives of pets in Sark after donating a resuscitation kit for animals.
Scottish charity Fostering Compassion donated the Smokey Paws resuscitation kit which firefighters can use to provide oxygen to pets at the scene of fires.
The kits were inspired by vet student Meghan Ambrozevich-Blair, who was working to produce the first kits when she died after being hit by a truck travelling the wrong way on a dual carriageway near her home in Dubar, Scotland nearly seven years ago.
Fostering Compassion's latest report said it had given one of the kits to Sark after reading about the challenges firefighters and pet owners face on the car-free island.
Sark's firefighters have to use a tractor to tow their fire engine to incidents and pet owners face a 45 minute boat ride to Guernsey to get to the nearest vet.
Lesley Winton, BEM, founder of Fostering Compassion, said: "We were delighted to help, and they were so grateful to have this life-saving equipment donated to them."
