City of Doncaster Council has announced upgrades to leisure centres

More than £500,000 is to be invested in wellbeing facilities at two leisure centres, according to City of Doncaster Council.

The authority obtained the funding, worth £507,000, after a successful application to the Sport England Strategic Capital Fund.

The refurbishments of Dearne Valley and Adwick leisure centres will include the development of wellness suites, according to council documents.

James Church, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, planning and public health, said: "Prioritising the health and wellbeing offer for our residents in Doncaster is important, as this will give residents the foundations to lead happier and healthier lives."

The funding is a further investment in Dearne Valley Leisure Centre after it received council cash in 2025 for improvements to the "fabric of the buildings".

One of the requirements of the grant from Sport England is that the council matches the value of the £500,000 received, which the decision papers state will be sourced through borrowing, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Cabinet papers from November 2025 previously outlined that improvements to both Dearne Valley and Adwick leisure centres were intended to move the sites away from "pure leisure to wellbeing centres that support the health and wellbeing of residents".

Wellbeing suites are to include Innerva exercise equipment, new reception points, a pool pod and improved meeting areas.
