Two families have been left homeless after a large tree fell and crashed into their houses after Storm Dave brought heavy winds to the region.

Fire crews were called to Windsor Crescent in Kinver, Staffordshire, at about 22:00 BST on Saturday, to reports of a tree that had fallen on a house and a car.

Pictures taken at the scene have shown a large hole in the roof of two semi-detached houses, and cars that have been completely crushed.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said no injuries were reported and firefighters left the scene at around midnight.

Ryan Bridgewood, who lives in one of the homes, said he feared for the lives of his two children.

He told the BBC: "We just heard an almighty crash, it was like an earthquake had hit the house. I've looked at those trees swaying in the wind before and have been worried about them.

"As soon as I heard the bang, I looked outside and saw the tree leaning on the house and I feared for my kids' lives."

The Met Office had warned Storm Dave would bring strong winds on Saturday evening with some heavy spells of rain at times.

Amber and yellow national severe weather warnings were issued for parts of northern England, North Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
