Two people have been treated by ambulance crews after fire spread across two houses.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service was called to the semi-detached properties in Braintree at 13:42 BST to reports the blaze had spread from the roof to the first floor of both homes.

In an update at 15:45, the service said six crews had been reduced and the fire was under control, although it warned residents to continue to keep windows and doors shut.

Steve Byrne, station manager, said: "We're in a position to start scaling this incident down to four crews and an aerial ladder platform - but we do expect to be here for several hours."
