A section of the A38 towards Bristol remains closed as officers investigate the murder of a man in his 20s

A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his 20s was found dead in a garden.

Emergency services were called to Cleve Road, in Filton, north Bristol, in the early hours of Thursday.

Avon and Somerset Police said they believed the man - who was found at the rear of a garden near a path that runs behind the houses - likely died several hours earlier.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with CCTV covering the nearby section of the A38 Gloucester Road North, Cleve Road, North Way and College Way between the hours of 15:00 BST on Wednesday and 03:00.

A spokesperson for the force said it was particularly interested in footage or witness accounts from rush hour on Wednesday afternoon.

The A38, which runs next to the scene and police cordon, remains closed southbound, and drivers have been urged to avoid the area.

Supt Karen Corrigan said the man's family had been informed and were being supported by officers.

"We cannot even begin to describe the anguish they are feeling," she said.

Corrigan said the murder investigation was in its early stages and officers would "continue at pace to establish the facts".

"We have lines of enquiry to follow, but we are now appealing to any members of the public who may have information which could assist with our investigation," she added.

Describing the incident "as a shock to the community", Corrigan urged anyone in the area at the time or anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to share information with police.
