A playing field in Portree in Skye has been taken into community ownership after legal and funding challenges were overcome.

Portree and Braes Community Trust raised £35,000 from donations and Scottish Land Trust funding to purchase King George V Park.

The trust said the purchase was complicated by the age of documents relating to ownership of the land.

The park was originally one of 471 playing fields in the UK named after King George V following his death in 1936.

Trust chairman Donnie MacNicol thanked those who helped to raise funds, especially Portree Under-15 football team which raised almost £4,000 by cycling around the north of Skye.
