Florida is about to get two major landmarks bearing Donald Trump's name - the Palm Beach airport near Mar-a-Lago, and a planned presidential library in Miami.

Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill renaming the airport the President Donald J Trump International Airport. The move, effective 1 July, is subject to Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) approval.

Trump also released what appeared to be an AI-generated video of his presidential library this week, showing a recreated Air Force One inside a building that soars above the Miami skyline with gold lettering on it.

The proposed 47-story tower, to be located in the heart of Miami, does not yet have an opening date.

A replica of the escalator he descended when announcing his first presidential run also sits in the museum, alongside a statue of Trump with his fist raised.

The exhibit also includes recreations of the White House Rose Garden - recently renovated during his tenure - as well as his proposed multi-million-dollar ballroom.

South Florida serves as the president's home base, where he frequently spends weekends at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

By this summer, the airport he uses there is set to bear his name.

While legislation signed by Ron DeSantis deems the renaming official pending FAA approval, the agency has said it does not formally approve airport name changes and described it as a "local issue".

A statement noted that the agency "must complete some administrative tasks to include updating navigational charts and databases".

The passage and signing of the legislation come after the Trump Organization filed trademark applications for potential names, including "President Donald J. Trump International Airport" and "DJT" for short, last month.

The move was lauded by the president's sons and other Republicans and decried by Democrats in the state.

"Palm Beach International Airport is now officially…. 'President Donald J. Trump International Airport!'" Eric Trump wrote on social media. "Proud to have played a small role in making this happen."

Florida House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell said the move would cost taxpayers $5m (£3.78m).

"Your money is being misused to celebrate the man who caused gas prices to rise to over four dollars a gallon, grocery costs to shoot up, and health care prices to spike," Driskell said in a statement obtained by US media. "Republicans are out of touch when it comes to the real issues impacting Floridians."

The airport renaming follows a series of similar moves by Trump.

His name has been added to the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, and in December he renamed the US Institute of Peace (USIP) building in the capital to the Donald J Trump U.S. Institute of Peace.
