Double yellow lines will be introduced at a number of "key junctions" in a town this week.

The work on 13 streets in Keswick aims to improve road safety and traffic flow, Cumberland Council said.

It is set to start on Wednesday and is expected to take up to two days. Parking along sections of the affected streets will be suspended while the works take place.

The programme follows on from a previous scheme which was postponed in December due to severe wet weather.

The restrictions will mostly extend between two and for metres on either side of each junction and the local authority warned parking fines might be issued to vehicles left in affected areas

Drivers have been asked to avoid parking in the areas set to have lines installed from the evening of Tuesday 31 March to allow work to begin on site on Wednesday1 April.

The affected streets are:

  • Acorn Street
  • Blencathra Street
  • Church Street
  • Eskin Street
  • George Street
  • Greta Street
  • Helvellyn Street
  • Leonard Street
  • Myers Street
  • Ratcliffe Place
  • Southey Street
  • St Herbert Street
  • Wordsworth Street
