Michael Bull was deemed unfit to stand trial at Bristol Crown Court

A man has been found guilty of unlawfully killing his sister at their shared home after a coroner concluded she could not have died of natural causes.

Michael Bull, 58, was deemed unfit to stand trial so a hearing of facts was held in his absence at Bristol Crown Court, with the jury returning a guilty verdict on 17 April.

Avon and Somerset Police said Bull had called 999 on 6 October 2023 asking for an ambulance for his sister Susan, who he said was not breathing. Paramedics later pronounced her dead at their home in Temple Street in Bedminster.

Det Insp Neil Meade said: "These are incredibly tragic circumstances and our thoughts are with Susan's loved ones."

"This was an incredibly challenging and complex investigation which has spanned almost two and a half years, utilising several divisions of the Major Crime Investigation Team," Det Insp Meade continued.

"We hope that Michael can now get the support he needs and Susan's family are given some closure."

A forensic post-mortem had been carried out and the cause of death could not be established, but the coroner concluded Susan could not have died of natural causes.

Bull will next appear at the same court on Tuesday 19 May.
