A man has been seriously injured in a shooting in Sheffield.

Armed police responded to reports of a firearm being discharged on Greasbro Road in the Tinsley area of the city at 22:55 BST on Sunday.

Officers found a man in his 30s with serious injuries. He remains in hospital in a stable condition. Greasbro Road remained cordoned off on Monday.

Det Insp Laura Procter, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "This is a terrible incident that has left a man with potentially life-altering injuries."

She said police were "hard at work following various lines of enquiries to identify those responsible for the senseless act of violence".

"Let me be clear, gun crime has no place in South Yorkshire," she added.

"It is not acceptable on our streets, and we will relentlessly pursue those who are involved, but we can't do this alone, we must work together to stop it.

"We need you to work with us and provide any information you may have on this incident."

Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the Greasbro Road area at the time and has relevant doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage.
