Some bus fares in Cornwall are set to rise now a discount scheme is ending.

Transport for Cornwall said that the council's reduced fares pilot scheme has come to an end and fares will need to increase from 12 April.

Shorter distance tickets will remain at £2.50 for adults and £2 for under-19s, with a new fare for shorter journeys of around two to four miles to cost £2.80 for adults and £2.50 for under-19s.

Single journeys will remain capped at £3 through the Government's national bus fare cap scheme, which is in place until March 2027.

Transport for Cornwall added: "We are very aware of the vital role our bus services provide in helping travel to work and education, as well as access healthcare and leisure.

"As a partnership, we remain committed to doing our best to keep buses accessible, affordable and sustainable."

Over the past four years, Transport for Cornwall said that more than 12m tickets have been sold and more than 23m journeys made using discounted tickets offered through the pilot and the national bus fare cap.
