The family of a man who died at a house in Kenilworth have said they were devastated by his loss and "forever heartbroken".

Carl Stephens, 45, was confirmed dead after emergency services were called to the property, on Chestnut Avenue in the town, just before midnight on 20 March.

Patricia Dowling, 49, of Chestnut Avenue, Lewis Dowling, 24, of Yarnfield Road, Birmingham, and a 16-year-old boy from Kenilworth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been charged with murder.

The three defendants were remanded in custody and would next appear in court on 20 May, Warwickshire Police said.

A 72-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender was released on bail while inquiries continued, the force added.

Paying tribute, Stephens' family thanked the local community for their support.

"We are deeply saddened to be writing that Carl's life has been taken in the most tragic way," they said.

"Our family is completely devastated by this and will be forever heartbroken."

Their statement added: "We would like to take a moment to sincerely thank our community for the love, compassion and support that has been shown to us, and sharing in our grief, it means more than words can express.

"During this incredibly difficult time, we kindly ask for privacy while we come to terms with what has happened."
