Solar-powered CCTV cameras given out to deter crime
Office for the Leicestershire and Rutland police and crime commissionerFree solar-powered CCTV cameras have been handed out at roadshows in an effort to deter rural crime.
In total, 25 free cameras were distributed to members of the National Gamekeepers' Organisation (NGO) at two roadshows, including one in Potters Marston, near Leicester, on 21 March.
The charity received a grant of £9,873 from the office of the Leicestershire and Rutland police and crime commissioner (PCC) to pay for the cameras and to put on the roadshows.
The funding also covered the cost of five poacher blocks to prevent the illegal entry to fields, provision for trackers, and property marking services.
Office for the Leicestershire and Rutland police and crime commissionerThe PCC's office said NGO members were also able to talk to members of Leicestershire Police's Rural Policing Team for advice and support on rural crime prevention at the roadshows.
PCC Rupert Matthews said: "Engagement by itself is a powerful crime prevention tool and is especially important in our rural communities where residents and landowners often feel isolated.
"Alongside introducing people to effective crime prevention tools, these events also helped gamekeepers to connect to one another and to rural crime officers and while also increasing understanding of the unique issues experienced by gamekeepers."
