Work to replace stolen cables that led to several message signs and CCTV cameras being damaged along the A14 will take place this summer.

Between April and May last year, Cambridgeshire Police received eight reports of cable theft between the A1 junction at Huntingdon and the M11 junction at Cambridge.

Police suspended the investigation pending new information and National Highways said in August it still did not have a date for when it could restore the signs and cables.

The highways agency has said it was now awaiting the delivery of the new cables, which would be installed over the summer.

"Unfortunately several message signs and CCTV cameras along the A14 between Huntingdon and Cambridge were damaged due to cable thefts," a National Highways spokesperson said.

"The cable ducts were also damaged and have since been repaired. We are now awaiting delivery of new cables before they will be installed over the summer.

"We continue to liaise with the police and thank drivers for their patience and understanding."

The spokesperson added that the highways agency was reviewing its security to prevent any future thefts.

Detectives thought the vandalism took place between 8 April and 25 May 2025, although National Highways said thefts had taken place as recently as August.

Since then, drivers have been warned of the issues on approach to the affected area through signage and National Highways said the SOS phones had not been affected.
