A council has given a £150,000 grant to keep 100 bedsits as supported accommodation for the homeless in the coming year.

Blackburn with Darwen Council's housing and public health boss Damian Talbot approved the cash for the Stepping Stones project.

The money will fund two lodges, which offer 100 units of houses in multiple occupancy (HMOs) for single adults who have been homeless or spent time rough sleeping.

Councillor Talbot said: "Without this investment, the risk of evictions, rough sleeping, and increased demand on high‑cost services would significantly rise."

He added: "The funding ensures the continuation of essential support services that enable residents to stabilise, develop independent living skills, and progress into long‑term settled accommodation."
