Eight youths have been charged over an attack on a man at Kilmarnock bus station which detectives are treating as attempted murder.

Police Scotland said the 29-year-old was seriously assaulted in Green Street at about 21:45 on Friday 20 March.

The man was taken to the town's Crosshouse Hospital but no details on his condition have been released.

A force spokesperson said seven male youths, aged between 12 and 17, and a 16-year-old female have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

They were released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date.

The spokesperson added: "A report will be submitted to the relevant authorities."
