Detectives are urging drivers, particularly HGV vehicles, to urgently review dashcam footage

A man in his 80s has died after being struck by a car on a busy dual carriageway in St Helens.

Merseyside Police said it was called to the A570 James Roby Way, near the junction with Chapel Lane, at around 13:00 BST on Monday after reports a pedestrian had been struck by a grey Vauxhall Corsa.

The force said a 52-year-old woman stopped at the scene but no arrests have been made as investigations continue.

Det Sgt Kurt Timpson called for any drivers, particularly heavy goods vehicles, who may have been in the area to urgently review their dashcams.

Timpson said: "I know that there were many other vehicles on the dual carriageway at the time that this collision happened and whilst we have traced and spoken to the occupants of some of them, I would appeal for others to contact us if we haven't already been in touch.

"I particularly appeal to those who drive heavy goods vehicles along this route (both directions) in between Eurolink and the M62 Motorway, who may have dash cameras fitted."

The detective also urged any local business who received a delivery from a haulage or delivery company around that time to pass on the appeal.
