A body has been found in the search for a teenager who went missing after going in a Lake District tarn.

Cumbria Police was called to reports of a person in difficulty at High Dam Tarn, near Windermere, just after 12:30 BST.

The force said a 17-year-old boy was missing having entered the water and multiple teams had joined a rescue operation.

It confirmed on Tuesday night that a body had been found and the death was not being treated as suspicious.

"The thoughts and condolences of the entire rescue team are with the male's family and friends who are being supported by detectives," Supt Patrick O'Hara said.

"I would also like to thank local farmers who supported the operation conveying first responders and equipment off-road to the search area."

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard and local Mountain Rescue teams had also been involved in the search.
