Shop owner's relief after new roundabout completed
Luke Deal/BBCA farm shop owner said he was relieved after significant roadworks for a new roundabout had been completed.
James Blyth is the owner of Friday Street Farm shop near Stratford St Andrew, Suffolk, near the A12 where Sizewell C has been constructing a new roundabout.
Blyth said the past nine months of roadworks had been "difficult" on his business which was 43% down on takings, but it was "fantastic news" that the roundabout had opened.
Sizewell C said the new roundabout would help reduce construction traffic for its new nuclear power station and Marjorie Barnes, head of public relations, said she recognised the works had been "challenging" and people's patience was appreciated.
"We've been looking forward to this for about the last nine months while works have been going on," Blyth said.
He added: "It's been a very difficult nine months.
"We've seen reduced trade with people staying away from the area with so much road works here and up and down the A12.
"It has had a huge impact on us, but hopefully it starts to get back to normal."
Luke Deal/BBCBlyth said the business was down on takings over the past few weekends due to the works and various closures, but he was confident things would now improve.
He believed the roundabout was "needed a long time ago" and it would improve safety for road users.
"It has a devastating effect, but we're looking forward now.
"Hopefully before long we'll see everyone come back to the area and enjoy the safety of the roundabout we've got now rather than the dangerous junction we had before."
Luke Deal/BBCSizewell has also constructed another roundabout further north on the A12 at Yoxford, which will open on Tuesday.
"It's great to see local businesses welcoming this much-needed upgrade to the A12," Barnes said.
"We know these works have been challenging at times and we truly appreciate everyone's patience.
"These two new roundabouts will deliver major improvements to safety and connectivity in east Suffolk - benefiting the community, businesses, and visitors.
"Our teams have worked incredibly hard to get both roundabouts open in time for the Easter weekend, and landscaping and replanting will continue to enhance the area in the months ahead."
