Teenage girl dies after car crashes into tree
Herts PoliceA 17-year-old girl has died after the car she was travelling in crashed into a tree.
The incident happened on Redricks Lane in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, shortly after 21:00 GMT on Wednesday.
The blue Ford Fiesta hit a tree before landing back in the road and passenger Megan Swann died at the scene and two other teenage girls were taken to hospital with serious injuries, Hertfordshire Police said.
The driver of the car, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing injury by dangerous driving.
In a tribute to Megan, released through the force, her family said: "Megan was a daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, cousin and friend.
"She was a bright, beautiful, caring and loving young girl. She had a zest for life with an infectious personality. If you met her once you would never forget her."
Investigators have appealed for anyone who saw the incident, or might have dashcam footage to get in touch.
