Police are seeking information after a flat was set on fire with a woman trapped inside.

Police have relaunched appeals for information connected to a murder attempt in South Ayrshire that saw a flat set on fire with a woman trapped inside.

The incident in Whiteford, Girvan, took place about 22:40 on 13 September. A member of the public had to break into the flat to rescue the 21-year-old woman.

A male suspect, described as being in his late teens and wearing dark-coloured clothing and a black baseball cap, was seen running in the direction of Assel Place after the fire started.

The force said it had not been able to identify the suspect in the months since the fire.

Det Con Stewart Gordon said it was only luck that no-one had been hurt as a result of the attack.

He said: "This is a residential building with families living in it. The person responsible showed complete disregard for their safety by acting in such a reckless manner.

"We've conducted extensive enquiries however we've as yet been unable to identify the suspect.

"I'm appealing to the public for help to do that."

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect should contact Police Scotland.
