Stories to make you smile from across Yorkshire
North Yorkshire Police/Amy Dixon/Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS TrustEvery week in Yorkshire, there are good news stories about people, places and animals across the region and we like to shout about them.
This week we have a fresh start for five-year-old Freya after a life-saving operation, alongside not one, but two animals called Frankie!
New start for Freya after transplant
Amy DixonThere's plenty to cheer about in Bingley this week, where five-year-old Freya Dixon has completed six months of home isolation after undergoing a life-saving bone marrow transplant.
Freya was diagnosed with Diamond-Blackfan anaemia (DBA) when she was a baby, a condition where bone marrow fails to produce enough red blood cells.
Freya suffered from complications after the operation in September, but she is now set to start school full-time and can play with her friends once again.
Support dog brings joy to patients
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS TrustMeanwhile, a new therapy dog is already spreading joy at the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease in Leeds.
Australian labradoodle Frankie offers patients and their families relaxation and companionship at a stressful time.
Burrow's children, Macy, Maya and Jackson, were among those to meet Frankie recently when he took a tour of the new centre, which opened in November.
Friendly ferret Frankie finds his way home
North Yorkshire PoliceAnother friendly animal called Frankie hit the headlines this week in North Yorkshire, with the ferret reunited with his owners after ambushing police.
Frankie jumped into a patrol van and refused to leave, but was described by officers as "very sociable and keen to help".
The mischievous mustalid was temporarily housed at a local veterinary hospital, but has now been returned to his owners in Tadcaster.
Trailblazing boxer gears up for home fight
FightzoneDhesi, 21, took up the sport in her early teens as she watched her brothers spar at the East Hull Amateur Boxing Club.
One of Britain's few Sikh female professional boxers, Dhesi admits to being nervous but "excited" ahead of the bout on 30 May.
Performing arts history project gets cash boost
CastA theatre in South Yorkshire has secured more than £50,000 in funding for a project exploring its local performing arts history.
The Doncaster on Stage scheme at the city's Cast theatre will share stories from the early Theatre Royal, which opened in 1776, as well as the Grand Theatre, the Palace of Varieties and the New Hippodrome in Mexborough.
Nicola Doyle, from Cast, said the money would "lay the groundwork for what the future of theatre in Doncaster will be".
