A woman has been charged with manslaughter over the death of an 87-year-old, who died a month after being assaulted at Birmingham New Street Station.

Dorothy Chiles was taken to hospital in a critical condition after she was attacked at Birmingham New Street railway station on 19 November 2024.

She was treated in hospital for a broken hip, but died at home on 27 December.

Charlie Lane, 26, from Marlborough Road in Gloucester, has been charged with manslaughter and a racially aggravated public order offence.

British Transport Police said she had been released on conditional bail and was due to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on 30 April.

The force said officers were called to the concourse of Birmingham New Street after reports of an assault on the morning of 19 November 2024.

Chiles was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Following surgery on a fractured hip she was discharged on 2 December, but died just days after Christmas.

At the time, her family described her as a "lively, outgoing lady whose energy was contagious", adding that she was the "heart and soul" of the family.
